- Fill out this form to let us know what you need!
If you are new to lacrosse, USA Lacrosse has a good description of the equipment needed for a player.
If you are looking to purchase equipment, the below links are generally good places to check out:
SidelineSwap - Individuals selling used gear, be aware of shipping times
Facebook Marketplace - Individuals selling used gear
Dicks Sporting Goods - New equipment - the South Meadows Mall location has a surprisingly good selection of sizes of equipment.
Scheels - New equipment - good selection.
IMPORTANT! - If you are buying a used set of chest/shoulder pads they MUST be NOCSAE ND200 compliant (this is the special padding over the sternum to protect the heart in case of direct hit from a ball). You can learn more about it here.
Also, it is HIGHLY recommended that prior to purchasing a helmet, the player try it on and make sure that it fits correctly. The CDC has recommendations and guidelines for sizing a lacrosse helmet.
We understand that the cost of equipment can sometimes cause hesitation if a player is new to the sport.
When first starting out, there is no reason to purchase expensive equipment, all lacrosse equipment will do a proper job of protecting a player, provided it is sized correctly. The $50 gloves will protect just as well as the $250 gloves. The main differences will have to do with weight, flexibility and comfort, all aspects which a new player are unlikely to be aware of.
Lacrosse equipment is also built to last multiple seasons, so purchasing equipment can be considered a long-term investment.
For those concerned about outlaying money for a single-season sport, we encourage you to explore the High Sierra Lacrosse page; the local non-profit High Sierra Lacrosse League, provides lacrosse programming throughout the year for all age and skill levels, so a player who wants to play more than just the high school season, could play almost year round, and some do!
Below is a sample list of equipment for a new player -
There are numerous places to buy equipment online, including used equipment (see above), but for a new player, it is highly encouraged to go to a physical store and try on equipment first to identify the size that you are after.
